Nba thoughts

The NBA owners and players association need to agree on a new CBA deal soon so there isn't a lockout and the NBA 2011-2012 season will start on time.

  1. I agree 100 percent, owners of the teams are just starting to get greedy and just trying to maximize their profit. Even though at the end of the day the NBA is a business, a lockout is just too much. Especially when they made so much money last year just off the Miami Heat.

  2. I agree with both comments regarding this impending NBA lockout. Even though the managers and players continue to state that their obligation is to the fans and the love of basketball its difficult to see that because their hunger for more money and more benefits (as if they don't receive enough) seems to overshadow their commitment to the integrity of basketball both in North America and throughout the rest of the world. Its unfortunate to see several millionaires essentially arguing over not having enough privileges while numerous individuals around them struggle to provide for themselves and their families let alone attend a professional basketball game. Over the past few decades (a conservative estimate) professional sports including basketball have (for the most part) been more of a highly successful marketing scheme than the individual and collective enjoyment of watching and participating in sports purely for the love of the game. Some NBA players have expressed interest in playing in Europe should the lockout be made official and I've read reports of some players negotiating 1-year contracts for at least $10 million. These players are rich enough that they could play for free without having to worry about securing another multi-million dollar check. Endorsements and royalties alone provide more benefits than a typical 9-5 day job and these NBA players only play for about 8 months of the year. I know that every season is causes significant physical and mental stress for each player and their families but this trivial dispute over increasing profits is a poor excuse for having a lockout and it showcases the deficiencies in character which operate the NBA. This is proof that people can and/or will allow their love of money to change how they conduct themselves. Thomas Fuller said, "God makes, and apparel shapes: but it's money that finishes the man."

  3. Yes I agree, from a fans perspective this is getting out of hand, and the worst case scenario that can come out of this, is a lockout, which seems to be what is going to happen at this point. They need to compromise and figure this out immediately, or there won't be an NBA season this year. The owners are losing a lot of money, but the fans are losing the game they love and cheer for.

  4. Yes I agree with the previous comments. Lockout's are becoming a regular issue in sports and I don't agree regardless of the actual problem.
